People's Artist of Belarus and the USSR, Laureate of the State Prize of the USSR Viktor Timofeevich Turov was born on October 25, 1936 in Mogilev. His way into art started at the Film Studio “Belarusfilm”, where he came in 1959. Viktor Turov’s first film "Our Soligorsk" was a documentary. Then was a war movie – “A Star on a Buckle” (1962).

A full-length feature film "Through the Cemetery" based on the story by Pavel Nilin brought Victor Turov the international recognition. This autobiographical film was greeted as a new phenomenon in cinematography. It opens a completely new view of the time on the topic of the partisan movement and occupation. The director focused the audience's attention not on the victories of the partisans but on the experiences of people who were forced into the occupation. By decision of UNESCO in 1994, the film "Through the Cemetery" was included in the list of the 100 best world films about the war.

In 1995 V. T. Turov was included by UNESCO into the list of 50 world cinematographers which were the representatives of the Honorary Committee for the celebration of the 100th anniversary of cinematography.
On November 23, 2021within the program of the Film Festival “Listapad” a memorable evening dedicated to the 85th anniversary of Viktor Turov is planned to be held at the House of Cinema. People who knew the master, admirers of his talent will gather. Viewers will be able to see one of the director's iconic films - the film "Through the Cemetery". (based on BelTA materials).
